We enjoyed perfect fall weather. I had moved all my plants inside and life was good until I went to Sutherland’s building supply. They had discounted their vegetable plants to ten cents. Now I have a “Ten Cent Garden” that will need to be covered for every freeze.

The new chicks are in a trough in our laundry room. The birds are doing well, and like babies they only make noise when something’s wrong. One day they squawked and we found the light we’d put in there for warmth had fallen. Last night they made some noise and we thought they were too warm, so we replaced the heat lamp with a regular bulb.

Our blind, decrepit calico cat is also in the laundry room. Last night I dreamed that we kept the chicks in a box and when I checked on them the box was full of chick starter feed and the cat was using it for a litter box. A duck was sitting on all the chicks and fought me when I tried to take them from her. In my dream I was worried that the chicks would follow the duck into the pond and drown. Then I woke up and checked the birds. They were fine.

Across the US there were multiple drive-by shootings on Halloween night. I don’t remember this ever happening in the past.

            Tomorrow is Election Day.

A friend had Stephanie and me over for a crafting weekend, and we shopped at a local flea market. It was so much fun. Life felt momentarily back to normal as we talked and laughed over food and worked on projects. The weather’s been beautiful.

Joe Biden was announced as the projected President-elect on Saturday around 11am. President Trump had already declared himself the winner and requested the counting stopped. There’s been some controversial vote reporting, so we’ll have to see how it all turns out.

I was unable to find my usual source for COVID-19 statistics. The numbers I found today for Palo Pinto County were 770 total positive cases and 24 deaths.

We added two little pigs to our growing farm over the weekend.

This morning I got a message from the credit card company that we used our credit card cashback at Amazon. We didn’t. So I contacted all the authorities about fraud. Sigh.

The weather’s been beautiful all week.

I heard from a friend there are 18 cases of COVID-19 in the Mineral Wells schools.

Warnings about future shortages of toilet paper and other items have been reported in the news. In Metro grocery store today they had a limit of one on eggs and bath tissue.

The recycling bins are full at the local drop site. They placed signs saying do not use. I’ve never seen that before.

Since Thursday Dallas has had 21 shootings leaving 7 fatalities.

Texas has had 1.1M cases of COVID-19 resulting in 20,160 deaths. Palo Pinto County has had 815 cases and 27 deaths.

Thanksgiving is Thursday. We had our gathering Sunday with just Ray, me, and the kids.

Experts asked families not to gather or travel, but despite the warnings airports are crowded.

Palo Pinto General Hospital issued a notice on Facebook that they are beyond capacity and working to move patients to other hospitals. Hospital employees can’t recall the last time they were this full. COVID-19 cases are up to 891 in Palo Pinto County with 30 deaths.

It was cool and rainy today. The soaking rain was much needed.

I’m baking cookies every weekend until Christmas and this is perfect baking weather. I chose a thumbprint cookie recipe with a cherry in the center. They were delicious, but they looked like boobs. In the oven, they attached themselves together in pairs. I hoped the guys wouldn’t notice, but they immediately did. We called them boob cookies, but Ray repeatedly asked for another one of those beautiful cookies. They’ll probably be my signature recipe from now on.
